By: Sportvision
Sportvision, Inc., the leading innovator of digital sports content and broadcast enhancements, today announced it has acquired certain intellectual property, assets and contractual relationships from PVI Virtual Media Services, LLC (PVI), enabling Sportvision to commercially provide all PVI products and services both domestically and internationally.
PVI is the pioneer of “downstream” enhancement technology that allows graphics to be virtually inserted from the broadcast center. Included in the deal, Sportvision is granted a license to PVI’s library of issued patents and intellectual property, which was concurrently sold by PVI to a third party. Additionally, Sportvision receives the rights to continue to offer all existing PVI products and services, further establishing the Company’s leadership at the forefront of sports broadcasting technology and digital media innovations.
This acquisition adds a new dimension to Sportvision’s innovative product offerings, as the Company’s media partners will now have increased flexibility when delivering graphic enhancements and virtual advertising to their viewers, via PVI’s sophisticated in-studio insertion system. The PVI technology permits sports broadcasters to insert enhancements such as the iconic Yellow 1st & Ten Line, in-studio, reducing the need for technical staff and equipment on location at an event, and provides Sportvision’s broadcast partners an additional, lower-cost option as the in-studio insertion system can be more efficient for networks to implement during event telecasts.
“Complementing our current product suite with this unique computer-vision technology augments our ability to deliver richer fan experiences,” said Hank Adams, CEO, Sportvision, Inc.
“We’ve always had tremendous respect for PVI and their capabilities, and we’re thrilled to combine these complementary technologies and integrate PVI’s significant computer vision-based capabilities with our world-class tracking and sensor-based technologies. Our partners will benefit greatly, as we can offer them the most comprehensive end-to-end solution set in the global market.”
PVI General Manager Jay DiGiovanni stated: “Sportvision is a pioneer in delivering compelling viewing experiences for all major sports. PVI’s groundbreaking virtual insertion technology will complement Sportvision’s current assets and help drive the development of new innovations that support their marketing partners’ efforts by further engaging sports fans.”
