Tracking the Action
SMT's American Football products are anchored by the Emmy-Award winning Virtual Yellow 1st & Ten® line – a product that was first premiered by Sportvision, which is now part of SMT. The yellow line is widely heralded as one of the most important sports broadcasting technology achievements and has become a staple of NFL and NCAA college football broadcasts.
SMT's FeatureTracker system collects precise data from replays, like Player speed and total distance, and visually tracks them on the broadcast to allow advanced analysis of key plays. PassTrack can quickly demonstrate a passing play from the quarterback’s perspective in a 3D format, and a scoring drive on the field can be virtually illustrated with DriveChart graphic elements. For greater storytelling, products like Virtual Player Cards and Lineups can give broadcasters great opportunities to share key player information quickly and effectively.
When more in-depth analysis is required, Synthetic Video offers various opportunities to view real replays within a virtual world so important plays can be rotated to different angles and zoom levels; arrows and lines can be drawn on the field to emphasize a point; and players can be highlighted, moved, or even eliminated from the shot altogether. Stromotion can freeze a player or object multiple times in a replay to emphasize trajectory in the sequence, and Sportvision’s Simulcam technology creates a side by side comparison of multiple replays for a direct reference and interesting visual. Both Stromotion and Simulcam are especially effective during the NFL Combine telecast.
